The U.S Green Building Council

The U.S Green Building Council is a non-profit organization based in Washington D.C that aims to achieve envrionmentally friendly buildings. The organization consists of 78 local affiliates, more than 20,000 member companies and organizations, and more then 100,000 LEED Accredited Professionals. The U.S Green BUilding Council has stated that buildings in the United States are responsible for 39% of CO2 emissions, 40% of energy consumption ,and 13% water consumption annually. The Council's main goals are to change the way buildings are designed into ones that are more environmentally friendly, more sustanbile and ones that benefit both the environment and then economy. 

The U.S Green Building Council certifies buildings through their LEED Green building certification system. Buildings that have been LEED certified are guaranteed to use less energy therefore saving money for families, businesses and taxpayers alike.
